Biography John Tait joined Paul C. Keeton in 1974 and has continued the firm's representation of individuals. He has represented many individuals entitled to workers compensation coverage from employers and insurance companies and other accident victims. His practice also includes real estate, wills, estates, business and family law matters, typical of the general practice of law. Mr. Tait has served on many local, state and regional boards of non-profit and educational institutions including Idaho State Board, Legal Aid Service Inc., 1975-2000; Idaho Housing Agency Commission, 1984-1991 and the Lewiston Independent Foundation for Education (1996—).

History

John R. Tait began his practice with Paul Keeton in 1974, having graduated fromColumbia College, New York, in 1968, and Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1974. He also served in the US Army, as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, after graduation from the Army Military Intelligence School, Fort Holabird, MD and receiving a Top Secret Security Clearance. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the US District Court for Idaho, the Nez Perce Tribal Court and Coeur d'Alene Tribal Court.

Mr. Tait's practice has included a large number of worker's compensation cases as well as personal injury, insurance, discrimination, real property, condemnation, business, contract and family law cases. He has been a Special Deputy Attorney General for the Bureau of Child Support for many years.

Mr. Tait has been active in the legal profession having served as Clearwater Bar President, member and Chairman of the Idaho State Bar Ethics Committee and Board member of the Worker's Compensation Section of the Idaho State Bar. He was elected Chair of the Worker's Compensation Section for 2004 and 2005. He has served many years on the Board of the Idaho Trial Lawyers and served 25 years on the State Board of Idaho Legal Aid Services. He has received awards from the State Bar and Legal Services for his legal work for disadvantaged citizens.  He currently serves on the Leadership Committee of the Idaho State Bar Idaho Partners Against  Domestic Violence and the Idaho Pro Bono Commission. 

Mr. Tait is also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice (formerly ATLA) , the Consumer Attorneys of California and served on the Board of the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group.

Mr. Tait was nominated by the President of the United States and found qualified by the ABA to serve as United States District Judge for Idaho, but his nomination was one of many that were blocked for political reasons.

Mr. Tait has been listed in Who's Who in American Law since 1985 and Who's Who in America since 1998.

Mr. Tait has argued a number of cases before the Idaho Supreme Court including those involving landlord and tenant law, crop dusting, motor vehicle negligence, cattle grazing permits, debtor-creditor law and worker's compensation including a case against Liberty Northwest Insurance where costs and fees were assessed against the employer and insurance company and one against Potlatch Corporation where his representation of his client was described as "vigorous" by the Court.  He successfully established the case law assuring that health care providers are paid their usual and customary charges, in full, under the Industrial Commission regulations.

Mr. Tait has served on numerous regional, state and local boards to improve our community, including the Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission, St. Joseph' s Regional Medical Center Foundation, the Idaho Housing Agency and he is currently on the Board of the Lewiston Independent Foundation for Education.

Mr. Tait is married to a Lewiston physician and they have two grown children.
